Miriam Barton

The focus of Miriam’s career is to help students develop their writing voices and to appreciate good literature. She teaches many writing and literature courses and, in each, encourages students to infuse themselves into their writing. In doing so, the writing is intrinsically more powerful and students are better able to navigate their own personal writing process. When students make connections between lived experiences and literature or research, they can speak with authority, better claim their writing voices and connect with their audience. To fellow writers, Miriam echoes the great William Wordsworth with the encouragement to "fill your paper with the breathings of your heart."
