Professor of music, piano emphasis

Hesston College seeks a Professor of Music with an emphasis in piano performance and instruction who will also teach 3-6 credit hours of music courses per semester. The successful candidate will also accompany the auditioned Bel Canto Singers in an active performance schedule and will be the music director (working in collaboration with the theatre director) for the annual musical theatre production. Candidates should have a master’s degree or higher in piano performance or pedagogy. This is a full-time, 9-month, benefits eligible faculty position, beginning August 2026.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Teach music appreciation, music theory, class piano and/or other academic courses in the music area.
  • Support recruiting efforts within the department.
  • Accompany student vocal and instrumental performances.
  • Provide music for institutional events such as commencement.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff and administration.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in piano performance or pedagogy (D.M.A. preferred).
  • 3-5 years of experience teaching private piano.
  • Experience accompanying choral groups, music theatre and solo performances.
  • Experience teaching and mentoring students in the arts.
  • Collaborative approach to curriculum development with ability to teach all undergraduate levels of music courses.
  • Commitment to student-centered instruction.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
