Systems Engineer

Hesston College seeks an experienced and service-focused professional to serve as Systems Engineer. This role reports to the director of information technology and will support the college’s on-premise and cloud infrastructure ensuring reliable, secure systems that serve academic, administrative and residential technology needs across campus. This is a full-time, 12-month, on-site, benefits eligible position.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and manage Windows/Linux environments, virtualization platforms and identity/access systems.
  • Support cloud and hybrid environments, including migrations and optimization.
  • Oversee backups, disaster recovery, monitoring and system performance.
  • Implement secure configurations and support FERPA/GLBA compliance.
  • Provide tier‑2/3 support and collaborate with ERP, LMS and CRM system owners.
  • Maintain documentation and participate in on‑call rotations. Occasional evening/weekend maintenance.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, computer science, engineering or equivalent experience. Experience in higher education is preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience with enterprise systems engineering.
  • Strong experience with Windows/Linux servers, virtualization and identity management.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP), backup solutions and monitoring tools.
  • Scripting/automation skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
  • ERP/LMS support, SAN/NAS storage or research computing experience.
  • Certifications (Microsoft, VMware, Red Hat).
  • Knowledge of configuration management (Action1, SCCM, Intune), IaC and networking fundamentals.
  • Strong communication and customer‑service focus.
