
Director of Choral Activities
Hesston College seeks a Director of Choral Activities to coordinate all music performances during the academic year, administer an active academic music program, and teach 3-6 credit hours per semester in music courses. Candidates should have a master’s degree or higher in choral conducting (D.M.A. preferred). This is a full-time, 9-month, benefits eligible faculty position, beginning August 2026.
The Director of Choral Activities will conduct the auditioned Bel Canto Singers in an active performance schedule. This includes one major choir tour per academic year, an annual masterworks performance, the biennial international tour as well as performing at local congregations and at major campus events throughout the academic year.
Other responsibilities include:
- Teach music theory and/or other academic courses in the music area
- Identify and recruit prospective students with an interest in music
- Team with those from admissions and the theatre program to bring students to the performing arts who will benefit from the program and make a positive impact on campus
- Stay abreast of financial aid and Hesston College scholarship policies
- Host 2-3 workshops/camps/festivals each year to generate leads and student interest
- Build relationships with high school choral directors
- Oversee the music department budget and curriculum development
- Collaborate with the marketing and communications office to advertise for performances and on-campus events
- Communicate effectively with students, staff and administration
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in choral conducting or a related degree (D.M.A. preferred)
- 3-5 years of experience in choral conducting
- Experience teaching and mentoring students in the arts
- Collaborative approach to curriculum development with ability to teach all undergraduate levels of music courses
- Experience recruiting and connecting with students, families, high school teachers and other arts programs
- Commitment to student-centered instruction
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
