Hesston College offers music students a vast array of performance opportunities, providing goals for the learning that takes place in private lessons.
- Master Classes
- All students who take private lessons attend several studio master classes each semester where they perform for one another in a supportive environment that offers affirmation and areas for improvement.
- Department Recitals
- Music scholars perform each semester on one of five Department Recitals that are open to the campus and community.
- Sophomore Recitals
- Students who have studied privately for four semesters are invited to present a Sophomore Recital.
- NATS Vocal Competition
- Voice students are encouraged to participate in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition that is held each fall. Our students regularly receive high honors at this four-state regional event where they compete against students from much larger schools and universities.
- Newton Mid-Kansas Orchestra Young Artists Competition
- Each fall the Newton Mid-Kansas Orchestra holds auditions for area instrumentalists to perform with the orchestra at their winter concert.
- Sunflower Performing Arts Guest Master Classes/Workshops
- World-renowned artists who are featured in the Sunflower Performing Arts Series frequently present master classes or workshops for our students. Recent appearances include Voces8, Chanticleer, The King’s Singers, Sons of Serendip, Mirari Brass, Armida Quartet, Broadway’s Next Hit Musical, Ruth Moody Band and Berta Rojas.
