…Just not for a Hesston College Football Team.
The 2014 Hesston College Phonathon blitz is underway as the college reaches out to alumni and friends with a goal of raising $100,000 that will help fund student scholarships.
Each year, Hesston College conducts a Phonathon to invite alumni and friends to support students in this way. This year, the college is using the playful hook of a fictional football program to capture the imagination of potential supporters. The idea was inspired by a shirt that read “Hesston College Football: Undefeated since 1909” recently sold by the Hesston College Bookstore. The college does not have a football team nor is it entertaining the idea of adding one.
However, every household that gives as part of this campaign will receive a collectible Hesston College football magnet. In addition, those who make contributions of $42 or more will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win the first official Hesston College football jersey.
“Phonathon plays a critical role in helping to fund institutional scholarships and grants,” said Interim Vice President for Advancement Tonya Detweiler. “This playful spin on starting a football program was just a way for us to capture the attention of our alumni and friends. So far, it’s working.”
If 2,500 alumni and friends give $42 or more, the college will reach its goal of $100,000. One week prior to the start of Phonathon calling, more than $15,000 already had been raised. Calling is scheduled to start the week of Oct. 27 and run through November or until the goal is met.
