Hesston College’s international students hosted a meal and program for the campus community Thursday, April 8. The college’s 18th annual International Festival focused on the theme “Celebrating the world of nature. ” The meal featured salads from Colombia and Indonesia, a soup from the Democratic Republic of Congo, a stew from Ethiopia, meats from Korea and Japan, a cake from Brazil and a tea from Somalia as well as the North American contribution: macaroni and cheese.
International program director Dave Osborne served as master of ceremonies, sharing stories about each of Hesston’s 37 international students along with descriptions and photographs of their home countries and the student’s favorite place or a tourist attraction in their country. In addition, to celebrate the contributions of faculty member Dwight Roth, all the international students who have taken a course with Roth took the stage to present him with a certificate of appreciation. Roth will make a “life transition” at the end of the semester. “Life transition” is Roth’s preferred term for something more commonly known as retirement. Photo by Larry Bartel
