Several events are planned at Hesston College January 15-17 to celebrate the dream of Martin Luther King Jr. The events are in conjunction with Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 15, a national holiday.
At 11 a.m., Monday, chapel will include music; a brief biography and history about King by John Sharp, Hesston College historian and history professor; and King's renowned "I Have a Dream" speech by Dustin Galyon, admissions counselor.
Pastor Junius Dotson will be the featured speaker during 11 a.m. chapel Wednesday, January 17. Dotson is pastor of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Wichita. Music will be provided by the Hesston College Gospel Choir directed by Huron Breaux, Wichita.
Both chapels will be held on campus in the sanctuary of Hesston Mennonite Church and are open to the public.
Meanwhile, a joint celebration and worship service by Hesston College and Bethel College will be held Monday evening, January 15. The 7 p.m. service, open to the public, will be held at Bethel College's Memorial Hall.
The service will include a variety of vocal and instrumental music, along with a reader’s theater performed by students from both colleges.
The guest speaker will be Rob Simon, Wichita, director of Programs and Diversity Training for the National Conference of Community and Justice. He is a singer, writer and motivational speaker.
Also open to the public Tuesday, January 16 is a Martin Luther King Jr. film festival running all day from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. in Kropf Center Room 150.
