Linea Bartel, Kalona, Iowa, a 5'7" setter at Iowa Mennonite School
(IMS), has signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball at Hesston
College next fall.
Bartel earned a varsity letter during her sophomore, junior, and senior years
at IMS.
As a senior, she received special mention all-state, was placed on the second
team all-area by the Iowa City Press-Citizen, and garnered academic all-state
honors.
During her junior and senior years, she was named to the first team all-conference
(Southeast Iowa Super Conference), to the all-district team (Southeast Iowa District),
and to the academic all-conference team.
As a sophomore she received second-team all-conference honors.
Bartel also played club volleyball--as a sophomore, she was captain of the Iowa
Rockets 16 Black team, then served as co-captain her junior year for the Iowa
Rockets 17 Black team.
Bartel also excelled in the classroom, placing on the High Honor Roll all four
years. She was an academic letter winner her freshman, sophomore, and junior
years, and was a member of the National Honor Society as a junior and senior.
Bartel also received a Youth Salute Leader Award by the National Council of Youth
Leadership.
Extra curricular activities include Chamber Singers during her senior year, a
1 (one) rating in the IOTA piano auditions as a junior, and a drama participant
at school her sophomore, junior, and senior years. Bartel also was a member of
her MYF (Mennonite Youth Fellowship) at First Mennonite Church (Iowa City) all
four years.
"Linea is a talented young lady," says Hesston College women's volleyball
coach Vanessa Schroeder. "She is a smart player with great hands, and has
excellent quickness that allows her to cover the court well.
"Linea is a determined and competitive individual on the court and in the
classroom," Schroeder continued, "which will make her transition into
the collegiate game go smoothly. She will add great depth to our setting position,
and I look forward to coaching her next fall."
Linea is the daughter of Lonnie and Julie Bartel, Kalona.
In volleyball, Hesston College competes in Division II of the National Junior
College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Located in south central Kansas, Hesston
College is the two-year liberal arts college of the Mennonite Church USA.
