2010 Season preview:

Cross Country back on the map at Hesston College

The fall of 2010 will witness the reintroduction of men’s and women’s cross country teams at Hesston College. Gerry Sieber, who previously coached men’s varsity soccer at Hesston for 23 years, will coach both teams. While at the helm of Larks’ soccer, Sieber compiled an impressive 247-128-27 record, including 11 regional championships. The last time Hesston fielded a cross country team was in 1978.

Highlights of the program and coach include:
  • A new varsity sport with a commitment to excellence.
  • An annual trip to Colorado for altitude training and team building.
  • Competition with NJCAA, NAIA and NCAA Division I, II and III teams.
  • Included on the roster this fall are five runners who had at least one parent attend Hesston.

Coach Gerry Sieber:

  • brings a wealth of coaching and running experience to the HC cross country program
  • a total of 40 years in coaching college athletes
  • coached many outstanding runners who competed at National Collegiate championships, including many All-Americans

Sieber looks forward “to working in a dynamic, vibrant, caring community.”
“I hope to help our athletes achieve their competition goals,” Sieber said. “Based on their high school performance, I believe several runners could compete well for us this fall. Furthermore, I envision success within the context of a fun and meaningful experience.”
This year’s men’s roster includes sophomore Alan Frazell (Potwin, Kan.) along with freshmen Zach Baumgartner (Hesston, Kan.), Kenny Graber (Stryker, Ohio), Robert Ketcher (Bunch, Okla.), Traven McCoy (Stillwell, Okla.), Brad Sandlin (Valley Center, Kan.), Daniel Turner (Soldier, Kan.) and Craig Fletcher (Lindsborg, Kan.).
The women’s side will consist of all freshmen, including Claudia Bacca (Dodge City, Kan.), Kaede LeFevre (Hesston, Kan.), Brenda Nieto Montoya (Three Rivers, Kan.), Mara Short-Miller (Bellingham, Wash.), Krista Rittenhouse (Mt. Pleasant, Pa.) and Lauren Weaver (Hesston, Kan.).
Most of the meets on this year’s schedule will feature competition comprised of fellow NJCAA members, as well as athletes from NAIA and NCAA Division II institutions.
