Science & Computer Laboratory
Camp for High School Homeschool Students
May 12-16, 2008, 8 a.m. -1 p.m.
Laboratory Camp (for 2008 graduating 8th graders through graduating High
School Seniors)
Hesston College faculty will provide lab experiences to homeschooled
high school students in the college science and computer laboratories. Parents
are invited to participate in the experience along with the students.
Daily Schedule
- 8-8:30 a.m. Opening General Session
- All students and parents will meet together during this time.
A "Topic of the Day" will be introduced and lab groups
will be organized for the day's activities.
- 8:30-11:30 a.m. Laboratory Sessions
- Laboratory sessions in six areas will be offered: biology, chemistry,
Microsoft Office/Adobe
Photoshop, physics, and web authoring. Students may choose to focus on
one field for the duration of the week or select experiments
or exercises from several fields.
The faculty will introduce each laboratory session with a brief
discussion of the concepts or principles related to the activity.
Near the end of the lab sessions, groups will discuss and prepare
a summary of their experiments or learnings of the morning to share
with the rest of the students after lunch.
- 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Lunch and Reporting
- Students, parents, and instructors will eat their sack lunches
together. After lunch, the students will report on their morning
experiments or projects which will be the concluding exercise
of the day.
Friday will include a celebration luncheon provided by the college
to recognize the students completion of the course.
- Afternoon/Evening
- Free time--take advantage of a wide variety of nearby educational opportunities and resources.
Fees
The registration fee is $130 for the first student in a family, $100 for each additional child from that family. If registered before April 1, the fee will be reduced to $110 and $80 per student. Parents are free to attend any or all sessions with their child.
Parents Orientation
A Parents Orientation Meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m., Thursday, May 8, in Lambright Hall in Lemons Center/Charles Hall. Parents are encouraged to come to meet each other and the faculty. The meeting will include an introduction to the activities of the Science & Computer Camp week and a tour of the labs.
